The Mexican Football Federation (FMF) is looking to bring the Mexican National Team to Charlotte for their match against Ghana on October 14th as part of their MexTour in the fall. There have been positive talks between FMF, Tepper Sports, and other parties involved to bring El Tri to Charlotte. While no deal is official, seeing El Tri at the Bank in October is likely.
El Tri last visited Charlotte in October of 2021. They lost the friendly 3-2 to Ecuador, months before the inaugural season kickoff of Charlotte FC. Mexico and Ecuador did not bring their best players to that match because it was not an official FIFA date, but there was still a pro-Mexico crowd of 39,887 at Bank of America Stadium.
The year started turbulent for the Mexican national team as they saw the sacking of Argentine head coach Diego Cocca after Mexico's 3-0 loss to the U.S. Men's national team in the Nations League semi-final, just four months after being appointed as head coach of the national team. Mexico seems to have an upturn after interim coach Jimmy Lozano led El Tri to Gold Cup glory last weekend in Mexico's 1-0 victory against Panama.
